Eden Sight Support (ESS) is a local charity providing support for visually impaired people throughout Eden.
We believe visually impaired people should not be disadvantaged through disability or lack of knowledge. We aim to achieve our goals through support, offering advice on aids to enhance everyday living and expanding existing services.
ESS is seeking a new Chairperson and active trustees to support, promote and enhance the services provided by the charity.
We require a Chairperson and Trustees who are able to commit to attending 6 meetings per year and provide support & guidance to the team. We are particularly interested in recruiting local people with enthusiasm, interest and commitment to making a difference to the lives of visually impaired people in Eden.
We warmly welcome application from people whose lives are affected by sight loss.

We are pleased to announce, that after much campaigning, especially by Edenb’s Sight Supportb’s Dual Sensory Loss Group, a new Audiology Clinic has been opened at Penrith Community Hospital. It will be warmly welcomed by all those in the locality with hearing loss, but it will be particularly beneficial for those whose loss of both hearing and sight has made travelling to Carlisle difficult and stressful
Initial assessments will still be carried out at Carlisle Infirmary but follow-up appointments for people in Penrith and the immediate area will now take place, when appropriate, at Penrith Hospital.
If anyone wishes to attend our DSL meetings or if you are aware of a friend or relative who will be interested then please contact ESS office on 01768 891724 for further details. All new members will be made very welcome, and ESS can also provide home visits if required.
Henry Miller, who is totally blind and experiences a severe hearing loss, climbed Sharp Edge at the end of May to promote the work of Eden Sight Support and to raise much needed funds.
