Services offered by Eden Sight Support (ESS)

Demonstration and Sale of Equipment

One of the main services provided by Eden Sight Support at the resource centre Sandgate is the sale of specially designed items of equipment to help Visualy Impaired people with their everyday lives. ESS stocks a small range of items such as talking clocks and watches, cooking aids, magnifiers. ESS also have in the office catalogues provided by the RNIB and similar organisations illustrating the vast range of useful gadgets and aids which are available to order from the office.

Advice and Support

ESS offers support and guidance to newly Visually Impaired people seeking to find information and solutions to their individual needs.

Social events throughout the year

ESS holds a subsidised Christmas lunch at the Roundthorn Country House Hotel in Penrith. In addition, ESS organises a summer outing to various local venues and afternoon events which are extremely popular with our members.

Home visits

Eden Sight Support can offer a home visiting scheme to advise or demonstrate equipment you may be considering buying for your individual needs.

Dual Sensory Loss Group

ESS holds on the first Wednesday of each month a Dual Sensory Loss (DSL) group for people who have a combined sight and hearing loss. DSL members are invited to be accompanied by their carers who will be made most welcome. We are a very friendly group with a sense of humour and members are able to share ideas and information. A guest speaker is invited each month to talk on a variety of interesting and relevant topics. Our meetings take place at The Resource Centre  Sandgate Penrith between 10 am and 12 noon. Outreach groups

ESS is currently running a Bi Monthly outreach group in Kirkby Stephen for our members who reside in this area. ESS welcomes anyone living in the Kirkby Stephen area who feel they would benefit from attending. The groups are very friendly and informal with members highlighting their needs and exchanging ideas.
